Charlotte Mae Grimes Goding, 99, of DeLand, passed away on April 17, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society-Florida Lutheran. She was born in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania on June 21, 1912 to Charles Miller Grimes and Marjorie Van Valkenburg Grimes. Charlotte was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth L. Goding. She moved to DeLand in 1980. Charlotte graduated from Winnebago High School, Winnebago, IL in 1929 and earned her Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI. She also studied at Rockford College, Rockford, IL, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI and Rhode Island College of Education, Providence, RI. Charlotte was a homemaker, mother and teacher. She taught 5 years in public schools in Michigan and 8 years with the school system of Attleboro, Massachusetts. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in DeLand and was an honorary member and served as superintendent of religious education at Second Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) of Attleboro, MA. Charlotte was a member of the Attleboro Teachers Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, New England Club of DeLand, Tourist Club of DeLand, American Association of University Women DeLand branch and the Florida Lutheran Retirement Center Resident's Council, where she was a past president and played an active roll in the development of the Health Center. Survivors include her sons Charles C. Goding, Sr. and wife Nancy of East Hartford, CT, Jeffrey G. Goding and wife Marianne of Danvers, MA and Lyman S. Goding and wife Jeanne of Sandwich, MA; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A Celebration of Charlotte's Life will be held on what would have been her 100th birthday at the Wilson Room at the Good Samaritan Society-Florida Lutheran on June 21 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Subsidy Fund at Good Samaritan Society-Florida Lutheran, 450 N. McDonald Ave., DeLand, FL 32724.
