Charles Philip Moore, 81, of Ormond Beach, died Sunday, September 4, at 7:25 PM after a brief illness and compli-cations from a broken hip. He was born, August 4, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Charles graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School, NY and received a BA in Mathematics from St. Peter's College, NJ. Charles was a Korean War U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a prominent member of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries (FCA), specializing in the emerging field of Pension Consulting. As an Executive Officer with several of the largest Actuarial Consulting firms in the country, he was instrumental in bringing professional Actuarial pension services to the Southeast. He served as an expert witness and testified before Congress as the landmark pension reform legislation of the early 1980's was enacted. Additionally, he was a Fellow Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA), Member of American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) and Enrolled Actuary (EA). Charles was also an accomplished musician. From his Top Drummer award in the nationally ranked Xavier High School Drum and Bugle Corps to his virtuosity on the Alto Sax, music was an important part of life. He grew up in the era of big band jazz and had an extensive tape and cd collection of classic big band music going back to the 1940's. Charles was active in retirement and believed in giving back to the community. He gave talks on the need for social virtue, was an active participant of Reading for the Blind (25 years), a trustee for the Ormond Beach General Employees' Pension Plan, Director of the council for Visually Impaired, and past director of the Association for Retarded Children. He also taught various computer courses at Darton College in Albany, GA and tutored math to high school and college students. Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theresa Patricia Moore, seven children and their spouses, Charles and Beverly Moore of Atlanta, GA, Michele and Bob Locke of Kenner, LA, Cheryl and Martin Barrett of Ormond Beach, Dennis Moore of Atlanta, GA, Brian and Terry Moore of Athens, GA, Suzanne and James D. Cain of Leesburg, GA and Christopher and Kay Moore of New Smyrna Beach, FL; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Moore, mother Ann Moore and sister, Marie Delores Moore CREDS In lieu of flowers please send donations in his name to Haven Hospice or Council for the Visually Impaired. A Catholic Mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Ormond Beach at 1:30 PM on September 7, 2011. A private burial will be held later.
