MANNING, CATHERINE D. August 14, 1929 - April 10, 2014Oakland, California - Catherine D. Manning, of Oakland, CA, was born Catherine Dolores Speights, on August 14, 1929, in Gainesville, FL. She passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness on April 10, 2014. She grew up in Gainesville, FL, where she met and married Pinckney David Manning. The couple moved to Chicago, IL, where Catherine was a homemaker and mother. Catherine's family was the most important aspect of her life. Catherine was predeceased by her son, Reginald; husband, Pinckney; father, Mack Speights; and mother, Rosa Lee Speights. Catherine is survived by her son Mansour Salahu-Din and daughter-in-law Lisa Williams Salahu-Din; son William Manning and daughter-in-law Jean Walker; grandchildren Michelle Manning, Kendria Sapp, Raushana Salahu-Din, Maurice and Rashad Manning; great grandchildren Treasure and Summer Pough, and Sparkle Hicks; sister Christine Williams; nephews Kenny and Darrell Williams; as well as other family members. We will remember Catherine for her love of her family and friends. She is and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Oak Hill Springs Care Center and ProHealth HomeCare, Inc., for the care and comfort they provided to Catherine before and during her illness.
