CASEY, BROTHER JOHN, C.F.X., formerly Brother Senan, 78, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 at Norton Audubon Hospital. A native New Yorker, Brother John entered the Xaverian Brothers on February 15, 1948 and was professed on February 15, 1950. This year he celebrated sixty years as a Xaverian Brother. He received his undergraduate degree from Loyola College of Baltimore and his graduate degree from St. John's University. He was a teacher at St. Patrick's School in Baltimore and St. Michael's Diocesan H.S., Xaverian H.S. and Nazareth H.S. in Brooklyn. In Kentucky, Brother John taught at St. Joseph's Prep in Bardstown and St. Xavier H.S. in Louisville as well as serving as the librarian in both schools. Brother John then returned to Xaverian H.S in Brooklyn where he spent twenty years as librarian. Brother John was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent. Brother John's final two years were spent at Presbyterian Nursing Home and Nazareth Nursing Home where he received much love and care from the residence and staffs of both health care institutions in coping with the ravages of Parkinson's Disease. Brother John's funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday December 5, 2008, in the chapel of St. Xavier High School on Poplar Level Road, with burial to follow in the Xaverian Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:45-10:45a.m. Friday in the St. X Chapel. Ratterman & Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nazareth or Presbyterian Nursing Homes.
