Bonnie Lou Scott was born in Springfield, Missouri, on November 21, 1927, to Harold and Beulah (Palmer) Chambers, and passed away December 12, 2007, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, Missouri. She lived her entire life in Springfield and graduated from Senior High School (now Central) in 1946. On March 13, 1946, she was united in marriage to Marvin Scott, who was a member of the Springfield Fire Fighters and held that position for many years. He preceded her in death in 1976. Also preceding Bonnie in death were sisters, Francis Austin and Ann Cejalvo of Portland, Oregon; and one brother, Billy Chambers. Surviving Bonnie are one sister, Maxine Krueger of Portland, Oregon; and two brothers, Donald and Conrad Chambers of Vancouver, Washington; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In the earlier days of their marriage, Bonnie worked at different establishments, including Royal McBee Typewriter and Woolworth five and dime; but for the 30 years leading up to her retirement, she worked in the Greene County Recorder of Deeds Office. She retired in 2000. She was a member of the North National Church of Christ, Springfield, Mo., having placed her membership there in 1975. She loved the worship services of the church and especially enjoyed the Thursday Ladies Class, where she was not only a faithful attendee to this class, but was an ardent worker in their knitting and quilting projects. Bonnie also enjoyed their work of making various items for cancer patients, including dozens and dozens of Teddy Bears, as well as neat caps for those suffering hair loss in their afflictions. She enjoyed the fellowship with these ladies as they worked together. Bonnie loved to travel and while a great part of this hobby centered mostly in district locals, she did make extended tours to Niagara Falls and Florida. She had a great sense of humor, even joking with friends and loved ones shortly before her death. Those who knew her were in agreement that she was a very neat person, not only in her dress, but she maintained an immaculately well-kept home. She had a place for everything and everything was always neatly in its place. She was a gracious lady who loved her Lord and His church. During her illness, which became progressively worse the last six months, she never complained, was cooperative with her doctors and nurses, and went to meet her Lord with the same degree of graciousness as she had lived. While she had no children of her own, there are numbers of nieces and nephews, along with local children who grew up looking to Bonnie with great love and affection, who fervently stood by her until the end. With this kind of friendship and love it was very evident that while Bonnie had no children of her own, there were many that she loved and received their love in return. She will be sadly missed by all of us. Special thanks are extended to her loyal and dedicated friend, Janice Bowler, and two nieces and their husbands, Beverly and David Maxcy, and Jill and David Casteel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, December 17, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial in White Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
