Billie-Jean Miller, born in 1934, spouse of George Swanson, daughter of Samuel and Ernestine-Kimberlin, mother of Mo, Mark and Diane, died on September 18, 2005 at 70 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Billie Jean "Block" (Swanson) Miller, 70, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, September 18, 2005, in Cox South Hospital. She was born November 2, 1934, in rural Sarcoxie, Mo., to Samuel C. and Ernestine Kimberlin Block. She was preceded in death by her parents brothers, Robert and Sam Block and husbands, George Swanson and James Miller. Billie moved to Springfield in September of 1952 to attend Draughon Business College. After graduating from Draughon, she began working at the KTTS radio station in 1954 and later at KTTS Television. When KTTS television and radio separated, she continued working at the television station, which became KOLR. She married George Swanson in May 1955. George passed away in 1962 and she continued working at KOLR until 1967 when she married James Miller and moved to Mammoth Spring, Ark. After James passed away in 1974, she moved back to Springfield. She worked briefly at Bass Pro and then began working at Executive Coach Builders where she worked for 17 years until her retirement in 2002. Billie was an avid sports fan. She was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and was very excited when the Springfield Cardinals started their season this year. Billie also enjoyed basketball and followed both the MSU and Drury men's teams, as well as the Lady Bears. She was always ready to go to a ballgame. She was also a longtime supporter and volunteer for Ozark Public Television and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1996. She was a member of the National Avenue Christian Church. Billie is survived b ya daughter, Diane Berkowitz and her husband, Mark of Polo, Mo. one brother, Leroy Block and wife, Bobbie, Reeds, Mo. five sisters, Betty Jo Heck and husband, Hershel, Carthage, Mo. Anna May Hunsucker, Aurora, Mo. Mary Jane Barnes and husband, Robert, Springfield, Mo. Louise Oberbeck and husband, Darel, Niangua, Mo. and Roberta Lewis and husband, Richard, Paola, Kan. 19 nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2005, in Housh Funeral home, Sarcoxie, with Rev. James Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Sarcoxie Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, in the funeral home. Donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of the Housh Funeral Home, P.O. Box 307, Sarcoxie, MO.
