Rev. Bill Henderson, a faithful Southern Baptist minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011. Brother Bill served as pastor of Highland Park Baptist Church, Muscle Shoals, from 1967 until 1973.After retiring as a full-time pastor in Adamsville, Ala., Bill and his first wife, Bonnie, returned to the Shoals. Brother Bill was an active member of the Colbert-Lauderdale Baptist Association. He served on the Earle Trent Baptist Assembly Board of Managers during the early days of the camp. Brother Bill served as an interim pastor in at least 18 churches in the Shoals area. His service as interim was instrumental in helping churches through sometimes difficult periods between pastors.After the death of his first wife Bonnie, Brother Bill married Jean, who also was very supportive of his ministry. Brother Bill had a brilliant mind and will be remembered as a genuinely good man and a faithful servant of the Lord. He served as a mentor and encourager to a countless number of ministers. His quick wit and positive outlook made him a friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.He is survived by his wife, Imogene Henderson; son, William H. "Bill" Henderson Jr.; daughter, Wauwice Henderson; two grandchildren, Kristi Zito, Atlanta, and Todd Henderson, New York, N.Y.; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Monroe Henderson; and sister, Myrtle Matthies.His visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Morrison Funeral Home. The service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with burial in Gallman Cemetery, Mississippi. Jim Warren and Eddy Garner will be officiating.Pallbearers include Mike Clingan, Bobby Clingan, Elon Joiner, Jerry Sibley, Larry Reid and Dr. Carl Welch.In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Hospice of the Shoals.Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
