CARTER, Beulah Bernice (nee Bliss) August 19, 1914 March 09, 2009 94 years young; healthy but a bit tired. Our beautiful Mom and Gramma passed away peacefully under the clear moonlit skies in Victoria with her loving family by her side. She was a resident of Glengarry Hospital for the past few years and prior to that, Oak Bay Lodge. Born Beulah Bernice Bliss in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, you were the 3rd of 8 children by your parents, the pre-deceased (of course) Dr. Wilfred Clorus Bliss and Ida Mae (Van Patten) Bliss. Little" brother Van (Elva) and your other sister-in-law, Vera and much of the family still reside and thrive there. You were a trained, medal winning mezzo soprano singer who, at the age of 18 ventured to New York City to pursue your singing career. After 2 years, you became homesick for PA and family and returned but not before recording at Radio City Music Hall with the 78 to prove it. Your love of singing continued your whole life. You soloed in church and gospel choirs, musicals and for the troops heading to war. Your family was never without wonderful vocals when you were present. You loved animals and every person you met especially young people during your late entry into college and university. And you sure loved us. Husband, Douglas, Daughter Sharon (Ed), son Ron (Lara), Grandchildren, Brooke, Kelly and Lindon. We feel so fortunate, so privileged. We held a Green Burial at the beautiful grounds of the Royal Oak Burial Park. A celebration of life will take place at a later date this spring. Contact any family member for the date. Remember to wear gardening clothes to help plant the Garry oak tree and native garden for mom to ascend to. After wash up, we plan a reception at the little chapel where we can visit and sing a few of her favourite tunes. Our warmest thanks go out to mom's long time companion/helper Robin Sealy and the wonderful caring staff of the Oak Bay Lodge and Glengarry Hospital where mom lived out the last years of her life with joy, comfort and dignity. Regular trips to the Ross Bay Pub didn't hurt either. 531405
