Obituary of Betty-Wainman Wheeler


DEERFIELD, N.Y. Betty Wainman Wheeler, age 78, formerly of Castleton and most recently a resident of Deerfield, passed away at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica on Friday, April 18, 2003 with loved ones by her side. Born in Albany on November 19, 1924 to John and Helen (Mutterer) Ray, Betty went on to graduate from Castleton High School and was wed to her one true love, Charles A. Wainman. Prior to his passing in 1971, Charles and Betty enjoyed 27 years together with their four children. Betty was eventually remarried and spent five years of companionship with the late Tom Wheeler. She is survived by two sons, Charles Wainman and his wife Sandra of Winterpark, Fla. and Mick Wainman of Burbank, Calif; two daughters, Judith White and her husband Roger of Oswego, N.Y. and Patricia Rabice and her husband Ralph of Deerfield, N.Y.; eight beloved grandchildren, Aaron Wainman and his wife Sharon, Louis and David Wainman, Rebecca, Natalie and Charles White, Ralph Rabice and Deanna Oliverio and husband Charles; two cherished great-grandchildren, Alexandra Oliverio and Chase Wainman. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Young; her brother, John Ray and his wife Florence; a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Betty's love touched many lives but none more than her family. She was a kind, loving, gentle and fair mother. Her undying love, devotion and faith in her children saw them through, even in tough times. Of all her accomplishments in life, this was her most important one and will have a lasting effect for generations to come. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the outstanding expertise and compassion provided by Dr. Joseph Booth and his staff. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the entire third floor staff at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for their tireless and tender care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 3 Catholic Way, Castleton, N.Y. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton, N.Y. on Tuesday from 9-10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Albany, NY 12211.
