Obituary of Betty-Sampley Jones


JONES Betty Sampley Jones passed away on May 24,2009 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born in Panama City, Florida on August 28,1928 to Charles James Sampley and Beatrice Rogers Sampley. Mrs . Jones was raised in Moultrie, Georgia where she was a member of the local garden club and women's club. She was also a long time participant and frequent star of the local "follies" in Moultrie. She moved to Jacksonville in 1959. An accomplished accountant and business woman, she worked for the Jacksonville Shipyards, and the Bellinger Shipyards, and retired from Crowley Maritime while in her seventies. In 1973 she was appointed to the Mayors Advisory Committee on the Status of Women by then Mayor, Hanz Tanzler and remained active in local community associations serving in many capacities. Mrs Jones was preceded in death by husbands, Hugh Danton Jones Sr., and Charles Hendricks and by her brother, Jack Sampley. She was a proud and dedicated Mother and is survived by sons, Danton Jones (Angela), Jerry R. Jones, Clinton W. Jones and Victor Jones, two grandchildren, Brittany and Christopher, a sister, Nancy Myers and several nieces and nephews. A memorial Service will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday May 28, 2009 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home 4140 University Boulevard South, Jacksonville, Florida 32216; with Rev. Betty Sikking of Unity Spiritual Enrichment Center, officiating. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
