MANCHESTER -- Betty S. Jones, 72, a lifelong resident of Dorset and Manchester died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Rutland Regional Medical Center. She had been living at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Rutland for the past year. She was born March 10, 1931 in South Dorset, the daughter of Harry Sheldon Sr. and Helen (Bowen) Sheldon. She attended local schools and graduated from Burr & Burton Seminary.She was the oldest of seven children, including five brothers. Betty was married to Irving Jones and together they stayed in Dorset and Manchester and raised a family. Betty worked for many years as a bus driver for the Dorset schools. She was a member of the Home Dem, the Manchester VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Ox Bow Archery Club. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Betty is survived by her mother, Helen, of Bennington; her sons, Richard Jones of Chester, Robert Jones of Danby and Staff Sergeant Albert Jones of Manchester; her daughter, Bonnie Gauthier of Manchester; her brothers, Harry Sheldon, John Sheldon and Tim Sheldon all of South Dorset; and 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Louise Clapper and brothers David and Jim Sheldon. Friends may call tonight at Brewster Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 7 p.m. A committal service will be held later in the spring in the South Village Cemetery in East Dorset.
