Betty-Meachum Smith, spouse of Darryl Smith, daughter of Joseph and Mary, mother of Trevor, Nc, Johnny, Terell, Marcus, Necole, Carmen and DC, died on November 4, 2005.
-> Mrs. Betty Meachum Smith of Stone Mountain, GA., formerly of Savannah and Augusta, GA., died on Friday, November 4, 2005 after a brief illness, at Dekalb Medical Center, Decatur, GA. She was a 1971 graduate of A.E. Beach High School; 1974 graduate of Armstrong State College; 1981 and 1993 graduate of Medical College of Georgia. She served in the United States Army Reserves with the 382nd Field Hospital out of Augusta, GA. She was employed as an Associate Nurse Executive at Georgia Regional Hospital Atlanta. Her parents Joseph and Mary Meachum, sisters, Joyce Meachum Brenson and Erma Jean Mobley preceded Mrs. Smith in death. Survivors include her husband, Darryl Smith of Stone Mountain, GA; four sons, Trevor Meachum of Fayetteville, NC, Johnny Brenson and Terell Powers of Stone Mountain and Marcus (Donna) Smith of Atlanta; two daughters, Necole (Columbus) Baptiste of Decatur and Carmen Smith of Washington, DC; three brothers, Joseph (Gina) Meachum Jr., of Charlotte, NC, Charles Meachum of Augusta, GA and Kenneth (Janice) Meachum of Savannah, GA; four sisters, Ozell (Alphonso) Wallace of Tulsa, OK, Sandra (Larry) Oliver of Fayetteville, NC, Patricia (Samuel) Boles and Sheila Simmons of Savannah, GA. Her aunts and uncles, Reverend and Mrs. Asbury (Ethel) King of Savannah and Earline Johnson of Tupelo, MS. She is also survived by four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 from 9:00 a.m.-9 p.m., with family hour 7:00-9:00 p.m., at Gregory B. Levett and Sons, Inc., 4347 Flat Shoals Pkway, Decatur, GA. 30034. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 12 Noon at New Bethel AME Church, 8350 Rockbridge Rd., Lithonia, GA., with Rev. Keith Donaldson D. Lawrence officiating. Savannah celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at 12 Noon at St. Peter's AME Church, 626 Staley Ave., with Rev. Bernard K. Ivey, pastor. Remains will lie in state from 10:00 a.m., until the hour of service. Interment: Eugenia Cemetery at Sallie Mood and Montgomery Crossroads.
