Betty Jean Hopper, 80, Miller, passed away at 5:12 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2006, in Freeman West Hospital, Joplin. She was born on February 12, 1925, in Red Oak, Missouri, to Theodore T. and Etter (Hulsy) Bates. She was a longtime owner and operator of Betty's Country Inn Restaurant in Miller and a member of the Miller Christian Church. Betty also loved to grow flowers and write poems. On October 13, 1952, she married Ormand Eagle "Cotton" Hopper. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1999. Survivors include: one son, Mike Hopper, South Greenfield two daughters, Linda Garner, Lamar and Shelly Miller, Republic two sisters, Verla Helms and Bonnie Young, both of Carthage 13 grandchildren, 20 greatgrandchildren and five greatgreat grandchildren. Her parents, and one daughter, Rowan Shaughen, preceded her in death. Graveside services, under the direction of Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home, Miller, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 4, in the Red Oak Cemetery, west of Miller, with the Rev. Walter Howery officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home today, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of America in care of the funeral home.
