Obituary of Betty-Jean Carter


BETTY JEAN CARTER (NEE PAYNE) HAMMOND, IN Betty Jean Carter (nee Payne), age 72, of Hammond, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008. She is survived by three daughters: Debra Krause (David Runyan), Karen (Mitchell) Portney and Kathryn Carter; one son, Roy (Michele) Carter all of Hammond; 23 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Carl (Ruthann) Payne; sisters and brothers: Tina (Steve) McMahan, Clara (Billy) Trout, Russell (Tracy), Johnny Floyd and Lloyd (Shelia) Payne; stepmother, Audrey Payne; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Preceded in death by her parents: Floyd Payne and Gladys Carter; devoted husband, John Carter; sons: John Ross, Bruce Carter and infant Brian Carter; daughter, infant Donna Jay Carter; granddaughter, Kayla Kinney. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home, 7109 Calumet Ave., Hammond, IN. At rest Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Betty Jean was a longtime area resident who loved to travel and watch game shows on television. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.
