SEBOEIS - Betty "Boop" Brown, 56, died Aug. 29, 2011, at a local health care facility, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born Jan. 21, 1955, in Bangor, a daughter of Richard L. and Joanne F. (Brown) Shields. Betty was a 1973 graduate of Bangor High School and a 1991 graduate of the University of Maine. She was employed at Community Health and Counseling Services for many years as an intensive case manager and also Allies, Inc. Lincoln. Betty had a tremendous sense for helping others and dedicated her spare time to volunteering, including volunteer driver for CancerCare of Maine, supervisor for Good Samaritan Food Cupboard of Bangor, and at local animal shelters. She dearly missed her Scottish terrier, Maggie, who predeceased her a year ago. She is survived by her husband, Dana Brown of Seboeis; her father, Richard Shields of Hudson; two children, Jeremy Gallant and his companion, Jenessa Bushey, and their son, Owen Thomas, of Hampden; and Monica King and her husband, Wayne, and their daughters, Gabriella and soon to be born daughter, of Glenburn; sister, Betsy Regan and her husband, Argo, of Old Town and their children, Amanda, Dyanne, Adam and Nate; nieces, Sarah and Shelby Shields of Louisiana; special friend and cousin, Nancy Goode and her husband, Roger, of Hampden; several special aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by her mother, Joanne Shields; and her brother, James Shields and his wife, Sandra, of Louisiana. A gathering and celebration of her life will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Birmingham Funeral Home, Old Town. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, with Pastor Garnet Chute officiating.
