Betty Jane Smith, 87, died Sept. 22, 2011, at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart. She was born in Olean, N.Y., and lived in Stuart for 51 years, coming from Olean. She was a homemaker. She volunteered for the Red Cross for 35 years, the Martin Memorial Hospital Thrift Shop for 20 years, Redeemer Lutheran School Campbell Soup Label for 15 years, Stuart Heritage Feed Store Museum and Redeemer Lutheran Church. Survivors include her sons, John A. Smith of Stuart and Robert Smith of Camden, Ala.; daughter, Rosie Marie Gaindini of Monroe, N.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert G. Smith; a brother; and two sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 South Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997.
