Betty Jane Elzey Bryant, 82, of Ball Play, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Rev. Joey Hanner and Dr. Chuck Conley will officiate. Burial will be at Union No. 3 Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a native of Georgia and a longtime resident of Gadsden. She was a member of Union No. 3 Baptist Church and retired from the Etowah County Board of Education. Extremely active, she participated in the Red Hat Society and the Lions Club and rode rollercoasters well into her 60s.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, James Clifford Bryant; parents, Boyd Elzey and Ida Mae Elzey Beck; brothers, Virlyn Elzey and Robert Elzey; and sisters, Elizabeth Perkins and Mildred Owens.She is survived by her children, David (Debbie) Bryant, Jan Hubbard, Gina Smith and Susan Wood; grandchildren, Angela Bryant (Jen), Tiffany Butler, Seth (Robin) Wood, Sage Wood (Amanda), Chelsea Hubbard and Savannah Hubbard; great-grandchildren, Gabby, Traton and Salem Wood; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Willene Cheatwood.The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center and Alacare Hospice.Pallbearers will be Charlie Wood, Jimmy Lolies, Bobby Boles, Johnny Elliott, Seth Wood and Sage Wood.Honorary pallbearers are nephews.The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m.Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Mayo Clinic for Alzheimer's research at Mayoclinic.org/give."She is clothed with strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future.
