<br/> <br/>BETTY J. <br/>SMITH --> BETTY J. SMITH, 79 WINTER HAVEN - Betty J. Smith, 79, passed away on November 9, 2014, due to heart failure. She was born in Titusville, FL, and moved to this area 60 years ago. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving, caring, and devoted mother and grandmother and was known by most as 'Granny'. She was preceded in death by her husband, David U. Smith, a son, Brian 'Possum' Smith, parents, Ernest and Lucille Austin, grandsons, Jimmy Blackwell Jr. and Derek W. Brown, and a brother, William Hellyer. She is survived by her children, David 'Buckshot' Smith, Connie E. Smith, Cheryl A. Brown, and Janie Blackwell, all of Winter Haven, a sister, Ellen Barker, of Clermont, FL, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. A visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15th, from 10-11 am with a funeral service following at 11. Both will be held at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Auburndale, FL.
