Betty-J. Rogers, born in 1925, daughter of Joshua and Maytie-Henderson, died on May 10, 2014 at 89 years old.
ROGERS Betty J., 89, passed away Sun. May 10, 2014 in Lexington, KY. Betty was born in Muscatine County, IA on April 3, 1925 to Joshua J. and Maytie Henderson Hoskins. She lived in Muscatine most of her life, moving with Gordon to Weslaco, TX in 1994. In 2007 Betty moved to Lexington, KY in order to live closer to her daughter Elizabeth. Betty was married to Gordon A. Rogers on February 1, 1950 at Fort Madison, IA. She was a 50 year member of Electra Chapter #32 of Eastern Star in Muscatine, IA. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Muscatine for 44 years, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Weslaco since 1994. Betty attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated from the Nursing Program of the State University of Iowa. She worked as staff nurse at numerous sites, including State Mental Hospital at Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital in California, the Polio Foundation in Nebraska and Minnesota, Bellevue Hospital in Muscatine and Muscatine General Hospital. She was Director of Nurses at Muscatine General Hospital from 1967-1973. She completed her career as a Nursing Instructor for Eastern Iowa Community College District, both on the Scott and the Muscatine Campus, until her retirement in 1986. She enjoyed Bible Study, reading, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Betty is survived by daughters Barbara Masterson (Debbie Garibaldi), of Uhland, TX and Elizabeth (Harry) Miller of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Catherine Masterson and Christopher Masterson of Texas, Theresa Rice and Douglas Newberry of Kentucky; step-grandchildren, Carolyn Miller of Washington, Emily (Chad) Hardeman of Tennessee, Trey Miller of Kentucky; great grandchildren, Erin and Nathan Rice and Connor Newberry, all of Kentucky; step-great grandchildren, Magnolia Miller of Washington, Ethan Miller of Kentucky and Rebecca Hardeman of Tennessee; and dear friend, Harry Masterson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, two sisters, one brother, and one great grandson. A memorial service will be 6pm Wed. at Southern Hills United Methodist Church, 2356 Harrodsburg Rd., Lexington by Dr. Bill Moore. Burial of cremains will be on Sat, May 17, 2014 at Memorial Park, Muscatine, IA.
