Betty J. JohnsonBetty Josephine "Josie" Johnson, age 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Nov. 5, 2014. She was born on June 15, 1934, in Stubenville, Kentucky to Joe and Betty Burnett. She graduated from Monticello High School. After business school, her career began at Reynolds Metals Company in Kentucky, later leading her to Alabama, where she met the love of her life, Howard Sivley Johnson. They married in Sheffield where they spent happy decades raising their family and being a friend to all. Josie was an active member of Sheffield First United Methodist Church where she was a member of Howard Jaggers' Sunday School class and served as chairman of the SPRC Committee. She practiced her faith, spreading her love, kindness and generosity to everyone, especially those in need. Left to honor Josie and remember her beautiful soul are her two children, Jay (Sandy) Johnson and Linda (David) Johnson Brocato; three grandchildren, Thomas, Benjamin, and Matthew Brocato; and nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Joe Reed Burnett, and sister, Yvonne Hurst. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. at Sheffield First United Methodist Church with Reverend Zeke Haselden and Reverend Bill Bedsole officiating. Reverend Randy Burbank will lead the committal service at Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. until time of service. The family would like to extend our warmest gratitude for the staff at Cottage of the Shoals Nursing Home, Dr. Ron McCoy, and Southern Care Hospice for their attentiveness and loving care.
