WAYCROSS, Ga. - Mrs. Betty F. Carter, 80, died Sunday morning (March 29, 2009) at Waycross Health and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness. She is a native of Appling County, but she has resided in Waycross for more than 51 years. She retired from Memorial Hospital (currently Satilla Regional) as an insurance clerk in 1993 after 15 years of service. She was also a member of Astoria Baptist Church. She is the daughter of the late Joseph Butler and Mary Baxley Butler. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Otis Carter; a grandson, Michael Scott Hallman; and one brother, Oliver Butler. Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Maze of Blackshear, and Lawanda Bladen of Waycross; two sons, Larry W. Carter (fiancŽ Mary Leslie Thompson) of Darien, and Gary Carter (wife Deborah) of Blackshear; nine grandchildren, Richard Allen Hallman of Waycross, Wendy Manders of Waycross, Amanda Kimmel (husband Ryan) of Waycross, Erika Boatright (husband Jamie) of Surrency, Megan B. Carter of Darien, Jamie Thompson of Darien, Tiffany Miles (husband Bobby) of Glasgow, KY, Brandi Denmark (husband Brice) of Manor, and James Dixon (wife Heather) of Mershon; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Bertie Jean Poole of Hephzibah; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday (March 31, 2009) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
