Betty Estelle Carter, "Granny", 78, of South Daytona, went home to be with Jesus on October 16, 2008. Granny was born on May 26, 1930 to Bart and Lenora Bass in Lake Wales, FL. Raised on the lakes, she was a third generation pioneer woman. Her greatest enjoyments came from cooking for her family, and from spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings. Her faith in the Lord was evident in her life. She passionately supported furthering the Gospel through missionary work. She was a member of First Baptist Church, South Daytona. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Gene Carter, and her son, Kenneth Brown. She is survived by her sons, Jimmie Brown, Keith Carter (Sheri), & Scott Carter (Cheryl); daughters, Sharon Cunningham (Jerry) & Connie Fields (Jerry); daughter-in-law, Lynne Brown; three brothers; two sisters; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; along with many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services for her home going will be held Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 1 pm at Cardwell & Maloney Funeral Home, 3571 South Ridgewood Avenue, Port Orange with interment to follow at Volusia Memorial Park in Ormond Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the First Baptist Church, Downtown Daytona, mission fund.
