November 13, 2004 Betty Elizabeth Smith, 81, of Westvale, died peacefully Saturday at Crouse Hospital. A native of Herkimer, she spent most of her youth and teens in the Buffalo area. She moved to Syracuse following her marriage and spent her early retire-ment years in Holiday, Florida, returning to Syracuse at the time of her granddaughter's birth. Throughout her life she remained dedicated and devoted to her family, her Lord and her church. She previously worked for Curtis Wright Aircraft during World War II, Dey Brothers from 1965-1970 and City/County Planning from 1970-1977. She was a very active member of Atonement Lutheran Church, a church Messenger worker and a member of their Jolly Dollies & Gents. She was a former member of the Elmwood Home Bureau. She enjoyed crafting and caring for her family. Betty is survived by her husband of 58 years, John L. Smith; a son, Steven J. Smith of Westvale; a granddaughter, Holly Smith of Westvale; several nieces and nephews. Services will be Tuesday at Atonement Lutheran Church, 116 W. Glen Avenue, Syracuse. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church's chapel, and the service will follow at 1 p.m. in the church's sanctuary. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt.
