<!-- FH = Woodfin Funeral Chapel 615-893-5151 -->Betty Curran CarterBetty Curran Carter, age 89 of Murfreesboro, Tennessee died Wednesday February 13, 2013, at her home at peace. She loved the Lord. Mrs. Carter was a native of Lancaster, PA and was preceded in death by her parents, William Wayne and Eva Randow Curran, and by her husband, Major Howard Carter (USAF, Ret). Mrs. Carter was the wife of an Air Force officer and was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Murfreesboro. Betty graduated nursing school from Lankenau Hospital with a Registered Nursing Degree and spent her lifetime caring for others: She was the Charge Nurse and Director of OBGYN/Labor and Delivery at Rutherford General Hospital for many years, School Nurse at Murfreesboro Central High School, Floor Supervisor at the Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital, Instructor for State Area Vocational-Technical School for the Licensed Practical Nurse Program in Murfreesboro. She worked for many years in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and ended her career as Quality Coordinator Nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Betty was a Volunteer Nurse with The American Red Cross for many years and was honored as Nurse Of The Year in 2000 for their blood drive and blood pressure program, and the Runner Up in 2001. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.She is survived by her sons: Robert Carter and wife Sue of Florida, Howard Carter and wife Marie of North Carolina, Mark Carter of Murfreesboro, John Carter of South Carolina, and Kevin Carter and wife Victoria of Murfreesboro; sister Joy Curran Angevine of Lancaster, PA; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, 22 February, at Advent Lutheran Church with funeral service following at 7 p.m. Pastor John Swyers will officiate. Internment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.Woodfin Funeral Chapel, Murfreesboro is in charge of arrangements. www.woodfinchapel.com
