Betty Brown passed away in Port Alberni on Friday, October 5, 2012, at the age of 84.Predeceased by her sister Lois, Betty is survived by husband, Clayton Sr.; children, Clayton Jr. (Susan), Daryl (Cindy), Keith (Anne), Deborah, Deanna (Kevin) and Steve (Sandra); 17 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Doris and Mona (Art).Born and raised in the Alberni Valley, Betty was proud of being the granddaughter of Minnie Paterson, a lighthouse keeper at Cape Beale, who was known as "the heroine of the West Coast". Betty and husband Clayton left the valley for a short time to take up farming in the Peace country, then returned to Port Alberni. A quiet person who got much enjoyment from animals and flowers, Betty's greatest love was being surrounded by family and friends.A Funeral will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Chapel of Memories. Stories and condolences may be offered to the family by visiting: www.chapelofmemories.ca.The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. White and his colleagues in the West Coast General Hospital and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit for their excellent care.In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 4841 Redford St, Port Alberni, BC., V9Y 3P3.
