Bessie Ferguson Williams, 69, was born Dec. 11, 1944, in Elizabethtown, to the late Ferguson James and Agnita Brown. She was the fifth of 10 siblings. She attended Elizabethtown High School and graduated in 1963. Following graduation, Bessie enlisted into the U.S. Army Women's Corps where she served until receiving her honorable discharge. During her military years, she met and married Prince Williams and to this union three children were born, Craig, Candi and Marc. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Bessie had a great love for community outreach and established many milestones throughout her many years of volunteerism. She was an assistant leader of Boy Scouts of America, team mother, served as arboretum chairman, Kingwood Middle School PTA board member and supervised Special Olympics events just to name a few. Her volunteer commitment also was seen in the political arena, with the Texas Democratic Women of Kingwood, Texas. Bessie returned to school to receive an associate degree in travel and tourism from North Harris County College. She later decided to continue her education at the Montessori St. Nicholas Centre in London, England, to become a teacher. She taught at Montessori schools for more than 20 years within the Kingwood community and was loved by all of her students. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Prince Williams; and a granddaughter, Kayla Williams. On Aug. 21, 2014, she completed her work here on earth and made the transition to her heavenly home.She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Candi Williams Green (Shannon); two sons, Prentiss Craig Williams (Tina) and Marc Christopher Williams (Wendy); seven grandchildren, Jessica Green, Destinee Young, Jaden Williams, Landen Williams, Evin Williams, Jacob Taylor Marki and Melody Williams; nine siblings, Alice Penson of Chicago, Jane Barnett of Kentucky, Elise James of Kentucky, Shirley Hatfield of Indiana, John James of Kentucky, Kathryn Everett of Huston, Texas, Harriet McEachern of Kentucky, Henry James of Missouri and Loretta James of Chicago; along with a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral is at noon CDT Saturday, Aug. 30, at Lockwood Funeral Home in Houston, Texas, 713-633-1421.
