GRATTAN, BERTHA MAY The death of Bertha May Grattan occurred peacefully Thursday September 14, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island she was the daughter of the late Gaspe and Susan (Gallant) Richard. Bertha had resided in Saint John for most of her life. She was a long standing member of St. Ann's Parish and a member of St. Ann's Ladies Society. She volunteered at the Catholic Book Store for over 20 years. Bertha received the Dollard award for her devotion to volunteer for her church and community. Bertha was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by two sons Gary Grattan (Christin) and Kevin Grattan (Jen Mercer) all of Saint John; two grandchildren, Thomas and Alexandra ; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Clifford Joseph Grattan and 13 brothers and sisters. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, (646- 2424) with visitations on Saturday 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christan Burial will be celebrated from St. Ann's Church on Monday September 18, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Following cremation a private family interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ann's parish or to the charity of the donor's choice.
