Bertha Mae Queen Carter, 73, of Elizabeth, N.J., passed away on Sept. 9, 2011. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the New Zion Baptist Church, 800 Flora St., Elizabeth, N.J. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Arrangements are under the loving care of Nesbitt Funeral Home, 165 Madison Ave., Elizabeth, N.J. Born in Cuthbert, Ga., Bertha moved to Elizabeth, N.J., in the early 1940s. She was employed at Singer's, where she was a seamstress for several years. Bertha was a member at New Zion Baptist Church, where she served on the nurses unit, usher board, and the choir. Bertha leaves her husband, Elmer Carter; two sons, Stephfon and Anthony Carter; two daughters, Tonya and Sandora Carter; one brother, Jesse Queen; two sisters, Ruby Brown, and Delores McAllister; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
