Bertha McFarlane of Haileybury died peacefully at the age of 94 at the Temiskaming Hospital on January 3, 2007. She was born April 22, 1912 to Alexander Hyde Johnson and Annie Zimmerman. A survivor of the great fire of 1922, Mrs. McFarlane had been a lifetime resident of Haileybury and a faithful member of St. Paul's Anglican Church. She was a founding member and charter member of the Haileybury Hospital Auxiliary and a charter member of the Temiskaming Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. McFarlane had also been a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Haileybury and New Liskeard. Mrs. McFarlane was predeceased by her parents; her husband Wilmot McFarlane in 1987; siblings Elva Lundy, Alice Garvin and Roy Johnson; and her granddaughter Diana Huff. She is survived by her loving daughter Eleanor (and her husband Thomas) Huff; siblings Ted (Dorothea) Johnson, George (late Betty) Johnson and Leonard (late Dawn) Johnson; grandchildren Donald (Jill Cameron) Huff, Peggy-Anne (Terry) Van Kempen and David (Nicola Butfoy) Huff; great-grandchildren Addy, Carter and Sally Huff, Tonia, Leslie, Katherine and Rebecca Van Kempen, Ethan, William and Evelyn Huff. The funeral service was held at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Haileybury on January 6. Reverend Linda White officiated. Spring interment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Haileybury. Memorial contributions to St. Paul's Anglican Church, the Temiskaming Hospital Auxiliary or a charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
