WILLIAMS, BERNICE O. Bernice Oakley Williams, age 91 of Gainesville, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was born November 24, 1919 in Richmond, Virginia. Growing up in rural Virginia on her dad's dairy farm she earned her high school diploma by kerosene lantern at the age of 16. Bernice enjoyed reading, poetry, crocheting, going to the beach and spending time with her family. She was a longtime member of North Central Baptist Church where she played the piano and taught Sunday School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Edward Williams. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Williams of Houston, TX, Kevin Williams and Gary Williams, both of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Susan, Sally and Kelly and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, with Pastor Calvin Carr officiating.
