Bernard Eugene Carter, 78 of Maynard, formerly of Waltham passed away after a long illness with his family by his side on June 6, 2014 at the Concord Healthcare Center, Concord, MA. Born February 5, 1936 and loving husband of 55 years to Gail A Carter (Chute). Born in Pembroke Maine to the late Arthur and Carrie Carter and son in-law to the late Maxwell and Lenora Chute of Eastport, ME. Bernard was a retired machinist with Parker Hanifan, formally known as WH Nichols in Waltham for 30 years before retiring to Maynard. He enjoyed cribbage, golfing, fishing and was an avid New England sports fan. Spending time with his grandchildren and attending their special events became personal and special milestones for him to achieve. He also enjoyed many memorable summers in Maine with his wife and family. In addition to his wife he leaves a daughter; Debra Cence and husband Luciano of Maynard, a son; Joseph Carter and wife Carol of Waltham, a brother Ralph Carter and wife Carol of Hudson, and two sisters; Patricia Dudley and Gladys Greene and husband Gerald all of Waterville, Maine. Bernard has four grandchildren that were his pride and joy; Amanda and Jessica Cence of Maynard and Samantha and Matthew Carter of Waltham, along with many nieces and nephews. Family and friends gathered to honor and remember Bernards life on Tuesday, June 10, from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord St., Maynard and again for his funeral service on Wednesday, June 11, at 11:00 a.m. Interment Glenwood Cemetery, Maynard.
