JOHNSON Benjamin Allen Johnson, M.D., was born on November 29, 1922, in Jacksonville, Florida to Lillie Gardner Johnson and Ben A. Johnson. He attended local schools and was graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1941. He attended the University of Florida and later was enrolled in the ASTP program. He attended Harvard University and subsequently received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. After graduating Yale he served in the armed services during the Korean Conflict where as a Major he was awarded both a Bronze Star and the Air Medal. He received training in pediatric allergy from Duke University and began his practice in Jacksonville in 1957. After ten years of private practice, he then attended the University of North Carolina and received a Masters Degree in Public Health. He served in various positions in both local and state government including Children's Medical Services, Worker's Compensation and other administrative positions. He was appointed to the original Jacksonville Air Pollution Control Board and subsequently to the Environmental Protection Board. He served from 1968 to 1979. He had his Boards in Pediatrics with a sub-specialty in pediatric allergy. He served as the Chief Medical Officer at the Jacksonville Military Processing Station. He leaves a sister, Elizabeth Hudson (James), a niece, Pamela Schuneman and a nephew, James (Laura) as well as three grand nieces and one grand nephew.
