DARTMOUTH -- Beatrice (Richard) McGuire, 96, of North Dartmouth died at home Monday, July 4, 2005. She was the widow of John McGuire. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Philias and Emma (Bourgeois) Richard. She lived in New Bedford most of her life; she moved to North Dartmouth two years ago. She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. She attended vocational high school, where she played basketball on the school team. She was a seamstress at local garment shops. She owned Dainty Beauty Shop, was a cafeteria worker at Bishop Stang High School and was a salesperson at the Star Store. Mrs. McGuire was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne at Sacred Heart Church, and belonged to the senior groups at St. Anthony's and Holy Name churches. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, needlepoint, baking, wallpapering, music and traveling. She was an accomplished ice skater in her younger days and enjoyed watching skating competitions on television. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and friends. Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne E. McGuire, and her companion, Joseph E. Toomey Jr., of North Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Regina Burke, Alma E. Scott, Ida Belleveau, Dorothy Fredette, Albertine Richard Sr., Jeanne Rheaume, Antoinette Surprenant, Evariste Richard, Edmond Richard, Alfred Richard and Henri Richard. Her funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford. Arrangements are by Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
