Basil Lee Davis went to join his beloved Kathleen in Heaven Sunday, May 2, 2010. He was 85 years old at the time of passing. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Revs. Charles Beshears and Morris Stephens will officiate. The service will be at Village Chapel Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery, Aroney.Basil was a resident of the Walnut Park community for many years and attended Walnut Park Baptist Church. He was retired from LTV Steel, where he was affectionately known as "Coon Davi." He was a dedicated patron of Attalla Waffle House, where many friends will miss him. Basil loved working in the yard with Kathleen and won the Beautification Award three consecutive years. He also loved to cook with Kathleen and no one went hungry. Basil was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; his parents, Ernie and Lessie Davis; and brother, Dean Davis. He is survived by daughters, Becky (Paul) Tate, Charlotte Davis and Cynthia (Chuck) Beshears; son, Vicky Dan Davis; sister, Dale Hamby; brothers, George Davis, Reynoil Davis and Max Davis; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way; two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; chosen son, Phillip Arledge; and his special friend, his dog, "Angel." The family wishes to thank the staff of the eighth and ninth floors of Gadsden Regional Hospital for the loving care they showed. Pallbearers will be grandsons.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
