Barbara Wilson Beck, 76 BATH -- Barbara Wilson Beck passed away August 9, 2011 at HillHouse convalescent home in Bath. She was born in Berlin, N.H., Oct.11, 1934, a daughter of Harry M. Wilson, MD, and Alberta Wight Wilson. Barbara was raised in Bethel, and eventually Bath, where the family resided for many years. She was a 1952 graduate of Morse High School and a 1955 graduate of Lasell College in Auburndale, Mass. She also attended the University of Maine. On June 29, 1956, she married James W. Beck of Woolwich. They had three children. For many years, Barbara taught school, first in Bath and later in Bucksport and Gardner. She leaves her husband of 55 years, James W. Beck, of Bath, her brother, Harry M. Wilson, II, of Pittston; her daughter, Katherine Beck Whittemore of Harpswell and two sons, David Wilson Beck, of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Daniel Wight Beck, of Manchester, Maine. She also leaves her grandchildren, Lincoln Beck Erhard of Boston, Mass., Caitlin Alberta Erhard of Cambridge, Mass., Timothy J. Whittemore of Anne Arbor, Mich., Samuel E. Whittemore of Rwanda, Africa, Jami Beck Hewes of Spartanburg, S.C., John David Beck, of Crestview, Fla., Tyler Steven Beck, of Readfield, Maine, Brooke Ashley Beck, of Readfield, Maine, Lyndsay Brooke Cochrane of Chicago, Ill., and Matthew, Madeline, and Katie Beck of Manchester, Maine. She also leaves her nephew, Harry M. Wilson, III of Skowhegan, and two nieces, Jennifer Ann Wilson and Rebecca Ann Wilson McFarland both of West Gardner, Maine; as well as five great-grandchildren. A life-long Episcopalian, Barbara had a generous, loving heart and fun-loving spirit. She was dedicated to her family and friends, and always had a fondness for children, for cooking and baking, for holiday celebrations, for gatherings and for music. She was a Corporator of MidCoast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine, and former board member of the MidCoast Hospital Auxiliary with which she was active for many years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Grace Episcopal Church, 1100 Washington Street, Bath, at 1 p.m. on Saturday August 13, the Rev. Michael Ambler, officiating. Arrangements are being handled by David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High Street, Bath. Reception following in Tubbs Hall. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.
