December 27, 2007 Barbara Straka Mitchell, 69, formerly of Syracuse, died December 27, 2007, at Loretto. She was born in Olyphant, PA, and had lived in Syracuse for the past 60 years. She worked in the Onondaga County Bureau of Vital Records for 15 years and the Division of Children's Welfare before retiring in 2000. After retiring she lived in McGraw, NY, and was a parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Henrietta Straka. Survivors: a daughter, Johann Monday of Yuba City, CA; two sons, John (Marta) Mitchell of Irvine, CA, and Joseph Mitchell of McGraw, NY; a brother, Paul Straka of Marietta, NY; one granddaughter, Jennifer Foley; three great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Monday, and Alexis and Austin Foley; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 9:15 a.m. Friday from MACKO-VASSALLO FUNERAL HOME and 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
