Born September 28, 1911 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Passed away suddenly December 21, 2001 at Hollyburn house, West Vancouver, BC. Predeceased by her husband, Robert Haggart Tarr on February 5, 2001. Barbara grew up in Winnipeg and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1932. In 1936 she married Bob and they lived in Winnipeg, Ottawa and Montreal before retiring to North Vancouver in 1971. Through the years, Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a good friend to many people and an active volunteer in her church and the rest of the community. In 1991, she was honoured as one of The District of North Vancouver's Distinguished Citizens of the past 100 years for her achievements, community spirit, service and devotion. On the 125th anniversary of Confederation in 1992, she was honoured by the federal government as one of the citizens "who had made a significant contribution to Canada, their communities and their fellow Canadians." She particularly enjoyed the family cottage near Wakefield, Quebec which she visited every summer for fifty years, including this past one. She will be greatly missed by her children, Beverley (David) Gowe, North Vancouver, David (Gisele) Tarr, Montreal and Valerie (Norris) Wood, Montreal. She will also be missed by her seven grandchildren: Robert Tarr, Bermuda, Deborah (Jason) Halmay, Lac Marois, Quebec, (and their mother Barbara Tarr, Toronto); Geoffrey (Adelin) Gowe, Vancouver, Christopher (Christine) Gowe, Toronto, Gregory Gowe, Vancouver, Heather Wood, Nelson, BC, Elizabeth Wood, Montreal: and five great grandchildren, Sarah and Ryan Gowe, Daryn and Kennedy Gowe, and Julia Halmay. Barbara is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Tarr in Winnipeg and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Hollyburn House for their wonderful care of her since she moved there in May, 2000. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2001 at St. Catherine's Anglican Church, 1058 Ridgewood, North Vancouver. The Ottawa Citizen, 06-01-2002
