Barbara-Onthank Brown, born in 1911, spouse of Chester-G. Brown, mother of Stephen B, Ky, Jeffrey C and Texas, died on November 24, 2010 at 99 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Barbara Onthank Brown, 99, wife of the late Chester G. Brown and longtime resident of Arlington, died on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at The Courtyard in Medford. Barbara graduated from Boston University and did additional graduate work at Harvard and Boston University. She was a longtime English teacher at Arlington High School and before teaching in Arlington she taught at Belmont High School, Northborough High School and in Stratton, Maine. While residing in Arlington, Brown served as a town meeting member for many years, was president of the Bishop School PTA, an active member of the AARP and the Garden Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served on many church committees. She is survived by two sons: Stephen B. Brown and wife Eleanor of Murray, Ky., and Jeffrey C. Brown and wife Letty Moreno of El Paso, Texas. Her grandchildren include Philip B. Brown of Sonderborg, Denmark; Matthew O. Brown and wife Xochitl Orozco of Tempe, Ariz.; Rebecca Spanos and husband Jason of London, England; Tyson C. Brown of Portales, New Mexico; Nathan C. Brown of Washington D.C.; and Timothy P. Brown of Raleigh, N.C. One surviving step-granddaughter is Sherry Rojas and husband Gabriel. Two great-grandchildren, Nace Brown and Daphne Brown, and one step-great grandchild Evangeline Rojas also remain. Relatives and friends were invited to visit in The Saville Chapel of DeVito Funeral Home 1145, Mass Ave., ARLINGTON, on Friday morning, at 9 a.m., with funeral services to commence at noon, in The First Baptist Church of Arlington 819 Mass Ave., Arlington. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The First Baptist Church of Arlington or to Boston University's College of Liberal Arts.
