Barbara R. Nelson, a long -time resident of Watertown and Waltham passed away peacefully early on Friday morning, February 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick W. Nelson Jr. - veteran of the United States Navy. Barbara was the daughter of the late Melvin and Greta (Scribner) Marshall, sister of Dorothy Marshall Noke and the late Earle Marshall. Barbara and Fred made their home in Watertown where they raised four daughters. Barbara was a longtime employee and secretary of J.F. White Construction Company of Newton, MA. Barbara was a devoted member of the First Baptist Churches of Watertown and Belmont where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She had a close circle of friends and enjoyed spending time on Nantucket and at Lake Winnipesaukee. Barbara was fond of antiquing, was a voracious reader and was an avid Red Sox fan. Barbara and her sister, Dorothy, thoroughly enjoyed their Thursdays together. She was completely devoted to her family and loved nothing better than spending time with her girls who loved her dearly. They were the source of her pride and joy Barbara was the beloved mother of Pamela and Don Secord of Sharon, Lindsey and Michael Rubino of Wilmington, Cheryl and George Pushee of Orange and Kristie Nelson Katz of Gilford, NH. Grandmother of Michael Rubino and his wife Darcy, Michael Secord and his wife Courtney, Michelle Browne and her husband Tom, the late Allison Rubino, Jacqueline Rubino, David Katz, Jeffrey Oates, Sarah Katz and the late Christopher Oates. She is the great grandmother of Katelyn, Megan, and Jillian Browne; Benjamin and Alexander Secord; and Amanda, Jessica and Jack Rubino. Memorial Service to be held in the Belmont Baptist Church 129 Lexington Street, Belmont, MA on Wednesday March 5 at 11 am. Relatives & friends kindly invited. Private interment Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown. Memorials in Barbaras name may be made to St. Judes Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
