->EAST MACHIAS - Barbara N. (Nichols) Johnson, 77 passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, after a brief stay at Sedgewood Commons, Falmouth. She was born March 1, 1936, in Lincoln, daughter of the late Forest and Lulah (Gray) Nichols.Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family, friends, her home and providing for her family. Barbara was loved by all those fortunate enough to find themselves a part of her life. She will be deeply missed. Barbara worked at the Machias courthouse for 25 years in the Register of Probate office in all capacities. She retired as the register of probate for Washington County in December 1998. Barbara was full of life and a sense of adventure. She spent many wonderful years traveling throughout the country with her husband, Don. For the last seven years, Barbara and Don enjoyed their winter home in Lake Wales, Fla., returning to Maine in early spring to spend time with loved family and friends. Barbara also enjoyed collecting Maude Humphrey figurines and collectibles shopping for her home. She graduated in 1954 from Mattanawcook High School, Lincoln. Upon graduation, Barbara spent a year at Gorham College and relocated to Connecticut where she worked for four years awaiting her future husband, Don, to return from military service in France.Barbara and Don Johnson married in the fall of 1958. They were blessed with two daughters, Tammy (Johnson) Armstrong and husband, Brad, of Albany, N.H., and Terry (Johnson) Joy and fiancé, William Sousa, of Gorham; and granddaughters, Kayla and Olivia Joy of Gorham, and Kristi Brown of Hollis. She was predeceased by her mother; father; sister, Jean; and brother, Robert. Barbara's family is grateful for the compassion, love and professionalism the Sedgewood Commons staff provided for Barbara during the last weeks of her life.Graveside services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barbara's memory to Anah Kampers, care of Lyman Blyther, P.O. Box 393, Machias, ME 04654.
