Barbara "Bobbie" Merton Morrison, 86, died Nov. 18, 2011, at the Vero Beach VNA/Hospice House. She was born in Lake Worth and lived in Vero Beach and John's Island for more than 50 years. She was raised in Stamford, Conn., and Englewood, N.J. In the early '60s, she developed the advertising campaign for the Summerplace development, which was founded by her husband and Anthony Drexel Duke. She was a Roman Catholic, and graduated from Rosemont Catholic Girls College where she received the Fulton J. Sheen award for her paper on philosophy. She also obtained an associate degree in nursing at Indian River State College in 1973. She won the first place poetry award in 1990 at the Mississippi Valley Poetry Contest for her poem titled "Bella Coola." She was a founding trustee of the Visiting Nurses Association in Vero Beach. She was a member of the Quail Valley River Club. Survivors include her sons, John James Morrison Jr. of St. Augustine and John Roddy Morrison of Vero Beach; daughters, Dr. Lynn Williams of Vero Beach and Sharon Lucie of Jacksonville; brother, Bill Merton of Virginia; sister, Judith Saul of North Carolina; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, John J. Morrison; and granddaughter, Andrea Morrison.
