MITCHELL, Barbara Iona (nee McKinnon) Travelled into the arms of God on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Windsor Regional Hospital Metropolitan Campus where she will be joining her beloved parents Laughlin and Mina McKinnon. Quietly and peacefully she departed this world for the next but her life will be celebrated by her 3 children; Greg Mitchell, Janice Bouma and Jennifer Parent, her grandchildren; Melissa, and Lisa Mitchell, Christine, Matthew and Adam Bouma, Tyler and Alex Parent. She will be missed greatly by Debbie Mitchell, Jim Bouma, Dan Parent, Janet Langlois-Resto, Rod Mitchell, Donald McKinnon, Charlie McKinnon and Pauline McKinnon. Life is a journey and is judged not by how you enter it or left it but, by the legacy left behind. Barbara's short life of 74 years was full of many varied and memorable accomplishments... A celebrated teaching career, a loving mother and grandmother, a caring and compassionate mother-in-law and sister, a treasured friend and mentor. While she will be missed by many, all will treasure the gift of time we had with her. The family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Schneider, all the nurses, attendants and staff on the Oncology Ward at Metropolitan Campus for their efforts and compassion in dealing with her illness. It is due to their extraordinary professionalism that we ask in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Oncology Ward at W.R.H.-Metropolitan Campus. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 10:15 a.m. from Marcotte Funeral Home & Chapel 12105 Tecumseh Road, Tecumseh (519-735-2830) to Parish of the Atonement 2940 Forest Glade Drive for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Clare Coleman will be the celebrant. Cremation and the final disposition of the cremated remains will take place at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. A tree will be planted in memory of Barbara McKinnon in the Marcotte Heritage Forest. A dedication service will be held September 30, 2007. All are welcome.
