Obituary of Barbara-Maury-Bowen Moore


SEDONA, AR. - Barbara Maury Bowen Moore entered into rest Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Sedona, Arizona. She is survived by her beloved husband, Henry Clay Moore, Jr., formerly of Atlanta. She was predeceased by her parents Edna and Dudley Hollingsworth Bowen. Mrs. Moore was a native of Augusta, Georgia, born July 8, 1938. She graduated from William Robinson Elementary, Langford Middle School, Academy of Richmond County (Augusta), Sweet Briar College (Virginia) and obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics from Emory University. She taught two years in Cairo Egypt at the American College for girls later named the Ramses College for Girls. While employed by Georgia Educational Television in Atlanta from 1966-1969, she developed the Patterns and Guessing Patterns television series and a related series for teachers of mathematics. Mrs. Moore lived in Atlanta for 30 years, during which time she taught mathematics at the Galloway School. Her lifelong interests included travel, international relations and the collection and creation of art. She studied Art at Georgia State University in Atlanta and loved painting self- portraits. In addition to her husband Clay, Barbara is survived by her brother, Dudley Hollingsworth Bowen, Jr. and his wife Madeline Martin Bowen of Augusta: her nieces, Maury Bowen Rothschild and her children, Eleanor and Graham Rothschild of Savannah, and Laura Madeline Bowen and Laura's husband Kurt Pivko of Kingsport Tennessee; a stepson Steve Moore and his wife Debra of Bellingham, Washington; a nephew Rogers Malone Jr. and his family of Lagrange Illinois, a niece Beth Malone Clark and her Family of Northbrook, Illinois; and, a niece Marjorie Lynn Malone and a brother-in-law Rogers Malone of St. Louis. She is also survived by numerous cousins. The remains will be cremated in Arizona and a memorial service will be scheduled in Augusta at a later time. If desired, friends and family may make memorial gifts to the following organizations or to the charity of their choice: The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art at 506 Telfair Street, Augusta, Georgia, 30901 or the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design at Georgia State University.
