Barbara L. (Reynolds) Collins, 86, of Worcester, formerly of Sandwich and Holbrook, passed away, peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2014, in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-eight years, John F. Collins. Barbara is survived by her son, David Collins and his wife Kathy; a granddaughter, Kelly O'Harra and her husband Chris; a grandson, Andrew Collins and his wife Lindsay; two great granddaughters, Alyssa and Molly. She is also survived by a brother, Frederick Reynolds, Jr.; two sisters, Martha Gurn and Rose Reynolds; nieces and nephews. Barbara was born in Boston, the eldest of seven children to the late Frederick C. and Violet E. (Morris) Reynolds. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing. Having retired from Carney Hospital as an Outpatient Department Nurse, Barbara and her husband, John moved to Sandwich, where she enjoyed gardening, painting, quilting, reading, and walks along Cape Cod Canal. Barbara has also, worked tirelessly as a Visiting Nurse while she lived in Holbrook. It was there that she made sure that anyone with a need, big or small was taken care of. She was a member and past treasurer of Chapter 221of the Grand Chapter of the Massachusetts Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the John Howland Society and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. Calling Hours for Barbara were held on Tuesday, October 7, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral was held on Wednesday, October 8, from the funeral home, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Notre Dame du Lac, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Charity in care of The Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, 302 Walnut Street, Newtonville, MA 02460.
