ATHENS, Tenn. - Barbara Jean Peters, age 76, of Athens, Tennessee, died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at her residence. A native of Blount County, Tennessee, she was a former resident of Augusta, Georgia for 35 years and resident of McMinn County, Tennessee for the past 10 years. She was a daughter of the late Moses Riley and Hazel Huffstetler Carpenter. She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by one sister, Erma Cooley. Survivors include her husband, Dennis Walker of Athens, Tenn.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Edward Anthony "Tony" Peters and spouse, Nona, of Evans, Ga. and David Peters of Los Angeles, Calif.; one grandson, Brian Peters of Evans, Ga.; one brother and sister- in-law, Jack and Barbara Carpenter of Maryville, Tenn.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Russell Long of Mason, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no formal visitation or service at the funeral home. Bordwine Funeral Home, of Etowah, Tennessee, is in charge of arrangements.
