Obituary of Barbara Hall


->Hall, Barbara M.Age 89, of, 317 Mitchell St, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at her home. She was born in Groton, NY, daughter of Walter C. Hall and Mr. and Mrs. G. Newman. A graduate of Cornell University in 1943, she began her career as a high school science teacher in Lyndonville, NY and later went on to Washington, DC where she was a feature article writer for Science Service, later Science magazine. In 1953 she began a long and distinguished career in radio broadcasting at WHCU in Ithaca, NY that spanned more than 50 years. She became director of women's programs in 1956, and ever the teacher, she brought to light and to listeners, issues of timely interest and value. Barbara traveled extensively throughout all of the continents, and hosted WHCU's Travel Talk where she shared news of faraway places and possibilities to others through the thousands of interviews she collected in her travels. Closer to home, and in later years, Barbara would interview and feature many local travelers with stories to tell of special interest and very popular with the local community. She was truly a woman ahead of the times. In keeping with Barbara's wishes, there will be no public services at this time. Donations may be directed to the SPCA, 1640Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850. Arrangements are by the Bangs Funeral Home.
