OLD TOWN - Barbara Elizabeth Gallant Mitchell went home Oct. 16, 2011. She was born June 17, 1924, in Old Town, to Arthur and Besse Russell Gallant. She graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1941, and was first employed in the office of Bangor Hydro Electric Co., Old Town. Later, she was employed for 24 years by Old Town - Orono YMCA, retiring in 1987. Barbara's greatest joy in life was found in her faith, family and the fellowship she found at Pathway Wesleyan and Faith Baptist churches. Surviving are two sons, Joseph A. Mitchell and his wife, Linda, and their family: Janine Campbell and her husband, Greg and their children, Alex, Amber and Andrew White and Olivia Campbell; Ian Mitchell and Kristy; Steven Mitchell and his children, Nora and Anabelle; Melissa Mitchell and her daughter, Syrai, and Mark Mitchell and his wife, Terry and their family: Mickey Lacroix; Michele Lacroix; Kristin Jeannin and her husband Henry. Surviving are two daughters, Deborah R. Mitchell and her family: Kelly Brown and her husband, Shawn and their children, Samuel and Benjamin; Karen Morin and her husband, Chris and son, Ethan Humphrey, and JoAnn Laggan and her children, Sarah Foster, Kaela Gonzalez and her husband, Miguel; and Alex Hardt. Also surviving are a sister, Corinne Keeley and her husband, Jack and their family. Barbara also leaves two dear sisters-in-law, Paulyne Mitchell and Frances Latalien. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. Interment will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
