Memorial remembrance for Barbara K. "Bobbie" Brown, a longtime resident of the Harrisburg, Pa., area, who died Fri., Feb. 16, 2007, at home in Ormond Beach, will be 11 a.m. Wed., Feb. 21, at Clubhouse #3, Bear Creek, Airport Road, Ormond Beach. Barbara is survived by her husband of 58 years, John C. Brown and a large and loving family. She was born July 21, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Edward S. and Lois P. Kain. She was a graduate of William Penn High School in Harrisburg and Susquehanna University, where she played field hockey, excelled at varsity tennis, and was a member of the Business Society and the O.D.S. Sorority. An active member of the Council of Catholic Women, she was one of the founding members of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Church in Penbrook. Her early life with her husband, John, was filled with untold hours of activity with her five children in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Penbrook Swim Team, the Susquehanna Township Little League Baseball program and wonderful family times at the seashore. Barbara was known statewide for her work in state government as a top aide to several leading public officials, including her service as personal assistant to Gov. Dick Thornburgh. She began a career in state government as an administrator with the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board and then served as personal secretary to Lt. Gov. Ray Broderick in the administration of Gov. Ray Shafer. She held the similar positions with state senate Republican floor leaders Richard Frame and Henry Hager before working on the staff of Dick Thornburgh's campaign for governor. Seemingly never at rest, Barbara was a competitive athlete and enjoyed tennis and golf at Colonial Country Club and in retirement at River Bend Golf Club in Ormond Beach. She is survived by her husband, John; sister, Elizabeth Stanton, Harrisburg; and five children, Deborah B. Keys, Mechanicsburg, Pa., Kathleen Brown, Ormond Beach, David R. Brown, Berlin, Md., Kimberly Brown, Louisville, Colo., and Michael J. Brown, Middletown, Pa. She doted on and was loved by her grandchildren, Shelly Brown, Cincinnati, Trisha Brown Gudeman, West Palm Beach, Beckee Brown, Maui, Hawaii, and Mary Ann Keys, Mechanicsburg; and great-grandson, Marcus Brown, Cincinnati.
