Barbara B. Wickhamof NorwichBarbara B. Wickham, 85, longtime Norwich resident, passed away Monday evening., December 16, 2002 in the Oneonta Nursing Home, where she had made her home for the past two years. Barb was born in Springfield, Vt., raised in Middletown and was a graduate of the Middletown schools. In 1937, Barb and her husband, William, moved to Norwich where they purchased a farm on Route 12 South, the same farm they operated for over 40 years. In December of 1961, Barb began her 31 year career with the Gibson School, where she soon became noted for her excellent secretarial skills. Extremely proud of the fact that she graduated from Broome Tech in Binghamton at the age of 52, she was also pleased that she could continue working with the school until the age of 75, and she was that age when she finally retired in December of 1992. Barb was a devoted member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich for over 60 years, serving as Clerk of the Vestry for 25 years and was then a member of the Church Vestry. In her spare time, Barb loved traveling with her husband and they had been all around the world. Born September 18, 1917, Barb was the daughter of Weston Grant and Helen (Keil) Barnum. On January 16, 1938, in Middletown, N.Y., she married William H. Wickham II, who passed away on August 8, 1978. Barb is survived by her children, the Rev. William Hunt Wickham III and his wife Joyce, Richmond, Va., Weston Grant Wickham, Lapeer, Mich., and Dan Keil Wickham and his wife Ursula, Otego; her seven grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Muriel Roberts, Morristown, N.J.; and her cousin, Pat White, Norwich; several nieces, nephews and cousins.Memorial services for Barb will be held on Friday, December 20, 2002 at 11 a.m. from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich. The Rev. Glenn Mahaffey, Rector, and the Rev. Robert Haskell of St. James Church of Oneonta, will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to The Place, 20 East Main St., Norwich, N.Y. 13815. Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
