Barbara A. Patterson O.B.Patterson, Barbara A. of Gainesville, Florida passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the E.T. York Haven Hospice surrounded by her family. Barbara was born June 12, 1932 in Boston, Mass. to Charles J. And Alice Favier Walsh. She lived in Belmont and Newton, Mass. and graduated from Newton High School in 1949. She then attended Lassel College for one year and started working at Harvard University where she became their necrologist. Following her marriage to Richard S. Patterson, she moved to Ithaca N.Y. where she helped put her husband through graduate school working as a technician in the nuclear physics department. They moved to Winter Haven, Florida in 1962 and to Gainesville, Fl in 1966 where she started taking courses at U of F and Santa Fe C. C.. She was in the first graduating class from Santa Fe C. C. and got her BA degree in Education in 1976. She taught for many years mainly as a substitute teacher then later as a full time English teacher at Howard Bishop Middle School. She retired in 1995. Throughout her married life she and her children traveled or lived overseas. She lived in India for ca 3 years when her husband was with WHO. She loved her family, pets, sports cars and the Gators. She was very active in several local sports car clubs and loved working with pets. Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Alden and is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Alexandria A. Yohpe, husband Christopher, Son Charles W. Patterson, wife Nancy and two grandchildren Megan E. And Michael C. Yohpe. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 2 PM at the Celebration United Methodist Church, 9501 S. W. Archer Rd, Gainesville, Fl 32608. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Celebration United Methodist Church, E. T. York Haven Hospice, or the Alachua County Humane Society. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, Cemeteries and Crematory.
